Job description

Head of Events - NEC portfolio
Conventions
Birmingham NEC
Up to £60k
Hybrid working home working Mon and Fri
Free lunch whilst on site & great benefits package

Fancy running the show at some of the Midlands' biggest and most iconic events? We're on the hunt for a Head of Events to take the reins at a multi-venue conference and exhibition business that hosts everything from 1,400-cover awards dinners to national conferences and international association events - no two weeks look the same.

This is a business that's properly on the up. New leadership, fresh energy, a young and sociable team, and genuine investment in growth - plus one of the strongest benefit packages you'll find in events (think free lunch, free parking, cracking holiday allowance, pension, healthcare, and money towards your own development).

What you'll be doing
You'll lead a team of 10 - three Senior Event Managers and three Event Support Coordinators directly, plus oversight of the wider team - across multiple venues on one campus. You'll own the planning, delivery, and post-event process for everything coming through the doors, keep an eye on financial targets and service levels, and manage outsourced soft services like security, cleaning, and furniture, escalating where needed.
You'll also be the one driving continuous improvement - looking at every touchpoint from first client meeting through to event wrap-up and asking "how do we make this a five-star experience, every time?" There's real scope to shape process, not just deliver against it.

What we're looking for
  • Senior event management experience gained within a venue, conference centre, or large-scale live events environment
  • A track record of leading and developing teams across multiple sites
  • The gravitas to command a room - you'll be running operational meetings with 20-30 stakeholders and need to hold your own
  • Strong commercial acumen, with experience managing departmental budgets and hitting financial targets
  • NEBOSH General, IOSH, or Crowd Safety Management qualifications are a big plus (don't worry if you're not quite there - there's investment in the right person to get you qualified)
  • A Personal Licence would help too
The practical bits
  • Hybrid working - Mondays and Fridays are home-working days as standard, though this is an operational role so some flex is needed around event delivery, including occasional weekend cover (with time off in lieu)
  • Genuine progression on offer, with real potential for this role to grow further within the business over time
  • A team that takes the job seriously but doesn't take itself too seriously - professional with plenty of personality
If you've got venue experience, a good head for operations and financials, and you're ready for a role where you can genuinely leave your mark, we'd love to hear from you.
