Job description

Estimator | Exhibitions
Exhibition Design & Build Company
Luton (office-based, flexible start times)
£30,000 to £40,000 DOE

Our client is a dynamic, creative exhibition design and build company producing immersive stands and brand experiences for clients across the live events and exhibitions world. Every project they take on is bespoke, so no two quotes are ever the same. To keep their exhibitions work accurate, competitive and profitable, they need a sharp, numbers-driven Estimator right at the heart of the operation. This is open to junior and experienced estimators alike, including talented people ready to step up from joinery, furniture manufacturing or shopfitting.

What You'll Be Doing
You'll take projects from the sales team, either brand new designs or re-installations of existing stands, and turn them into accurate cost estimates and budget proposals. You'll read the technical drawings, get under the skin of every detail at handover, and work out what it'll really take to manufacture and install each build. The costing sheets you produce become the reference point that project management and accounts use to track spend on every live events and exhibitions project.

You'll report to the Head of Operations and sit right between sales and operations, joining a bi-weekly estimating meeting to keep on top of the pipeline, turnaround times and client deadlines. This is bespoke pricing, not formula-based calculation, so you'll need a flexible, problem-solving mindset as well as a sharp eye for numbers. It's a small business, so you'll happily pitch in across the wider team too.

What You'll Bring
  • Estimating experience, ideally on bespoke projects. Exhibition or stand build experience is a bonus but not essential
  • For a more junior hire, a background in joinery and woodworking, furniture manufacturing, or shopfitting and retail interiors
  • Confidence reading technical drawings and judging cost effectiveness and practicality of manufacture and install
  • Strong Excel and Microsoft Office skills, with Smartsheet or similar estimating software a plus
  • Accuracy, attention to detail and the ability to juggle several projects against tight deadlines
  • Honesty, reliability and a team-player attitude that suits a small business
What's in it for you
  • £30k to £35k for a junior estimator, around £40k for an experienced one, and open to discussion
  • 28 days' holiday including bank holidays, plus your birthday off
  • A holiday purchase scheme if you want more time off
  • AXA medical insurance and an Employee Assistance Programme
  • Cycle to Work scheme
  • Flexible start times between 8am and 10am (benefits kick in after probation)
  • A creative, close-knit team where your numbers make every build happen
