Role Overview
As Production Director, you will play a senior, hands-on role in shaping and delivering the company's most complex productions and experiential projects. You will steer multi-disciplinary event delivery, technical, scenic, digital, operational, while fostering collaborative relationships with clients, agencies, internal teams, and global suppliers.
You will lead projects from first conversation through to live delivery, ensuring that every activation not only meets technical and creative expectations but reflects the company's values: partnership, transparency, innovation, and sustainable thinking.
This role demands advanced technical knowledge, strong scenic and fabrication understanding, commercial confidence and the ability to guide teams through high-value, multi-layered production environments.

Key Responsibilities
Client Partnership & Project Leadership
- Act as a trusted advisor to client and agency partners, shaping production solutions from early ideation through to delivery.
- Take initial project briefs, providing strategic and technical guidance grounded in experience and practical feasibility.
- Maintain open, honest communication throughout the project lifecycle.
- Confidently develop and present proposals, contributing to long-standing client relationships and new business wins.
- Represent the company's values and high standards at every stage of engagement.
- Provide senior oversight across A/V, lighting, video, staging, scenic fabrication and technical integration.
- Guide scenic build approaches, material choices and fabrication methods aligned with design intent and sustainability considerations.
- Ensure all technical documentation, CAD drawings, risk assessments and show plans are accurate, safe, and comprehensive.
- Work alongside design, scenic, technical, and digital teams to ensure cohesive, high-quality delivery.
- Manage complex project budgets of £250,000+ across multiple workstreams.
- Monitor costs throughout pre-production, ensuring target margins are achieved without compromising quality.
- Identify value-engineering opportunities and propose smart, sustainable alternatives.
- Oversee supplier procurement and commercial negotiations with transparency and accuracy.
- Lead onsite delivery for installations, technical rehearsals, live shows, and de-rigs, ensuring safety, precision, and professionalism.
- Mentor and manage freelance production teams; build positive working relationships with contractors and suppliers.
- Maintain exceptional documentation and logistical oversight to keep projects running smoothly.
- Support fellow Freelance Project Managers when needed to promote a collaborative team culture.
- Uphold the company's refined event delivery processes and workflows.
- Contribute to continuous improvement, sharing insights and helping shape future practices.
- Represent the business at networking events, venue showcases and industry gatherings.
Essential Experience
- 8+ years' experience in live events, experiential production, or creative technical delivery.
- Proven track record delivering large-scale projects with multiple technical disciplines (A/V, lighting, scenic, video, sound).
- Strong scenic production, fabrication, and technical integration knowledge.
- Experience working closely with agencies, creative partners, or client-side teams.
- Strong leadership skills with experience managing freelancers, suppliers, and technical teams.
- Ability to manage multiple high-value, multi-layered projects simultaneously.
- Strong commercial acumen, understanding of profit margins, budget control and cost management.
- Excellent client-facing communicator, clear, articulate, approachable.
- Highly organised, with the ability to prioritise and maintain calm under pressure.
- Collaborative mindset with the ability to work seamlessly across internal and external teams.
- Solutions-focused and innovative when approaching technical or logistical challenges.
- Strong attention to detail, able to uphold high standards of delivery.
- Willingness to travel, including international work in challenging environments.
- Confident user of Microsoft Office (Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, Teams).
- Direct agency/client-facing experience
- Advanced scenic and technical production knowledge
- Strong understanding of event production equipment and integrated solutions
- Able to commute regularly to Midlands based office
- Flexibility for evening/weekend work as projects require
- 1 day per week remote working may be considered for exceptional candidates.
