Senior Technical Production Manager
Location: Derby
Job Type: Permanent, Full Time
Schedule: Monday to Friday, 9am-5pm, with required evening/weekend flexibility depending on project needs
Salary: £55,000
Role Overview We're seeking a highly skilled Senior Technical Production Manager to join a growing events production company based in Derby. This senior-level role is central to managing the full technical, logistical and creative delivery of large-scale live projects-ranging from branded experiences and corporate events to exhibitions, product launches and bespoke installations.
You'll lead multiple simultaneous projects, guide production teams, shape technical solutions and ensure every event is executed safely, efficiently and to an exceptional standard. You'll lead multiple simultaneous projects, guide production teams, shape technical solutions and ensure every event is executed safely, efficiently and to an exceptional standard. This role requires someone who can balance strategic oversight with hands-on capability, and who thrives in fast-paced, multidisciplinary environments.
Key Responsibilities Technical & Creative Leadership
- Lead the development of technical concepts, solutions and creative approaches for complex live events and exhibition builds
- Interpret briefs and convert them into detailed, actionable production strategies
- Oversee the creation of all production documentation, including schedules, CAD plans, equipment specs and operational packs
- Ensure all technical elements-lighting, audio, video, rigging, scenic and structural-integrate seamlessly
- Act as the senior point of contact for clients, nurturing long-term relationships and building trust
- Run client meetings, site surveys, technical presentations and pre-production sessions
- Manage project budgets, costings and resource allocations; forecast accurately and maintain financial control
- Review project progress at key milestones, identifying risks and mitigating them proactively
- Coordinate internal teams, freelancers, suppliers and venue partners, ensuring clarity of roles and responsibilities
- Lead onsite operations, supervising builds, rehearsals, show calls and de-rigs with authority and professionalism
- Direct staffing plans, logistics, transport, crew briefings and technical delivery
- Ensure all RAMS, H&S procedures, compliance checks and venue protocols are in place and maintained
- Mentor junior and mid-level managers, sharing knowledge and encouraging skill development
- Promote best practices in project workflow, quality control and technical standards
- Support the wider management team in refining operational processes and improving delivery efficiency
- Champion a collaborative, positive and solutions-focused culture across the business
- Identify opportunities for client growth or service expansion
- Support pitch work, proposals and tender submissions when higher-level technical insight is required
- Represent the production team in leadership discussions and operational planning
- Minimum 5+ years' experience in technical production for live events, exhibitions or large-scale commercial installations
- Deep understanding of at least two technical disciplines (e.g., lighting, audio, video, rigging, scenic), with working knowledge of others
- Strong experience with technical drawings and planning tools (AutoCAD, Vectorworks or similar)
- Proven ability to lead multi-disciplinary teams in high-pressure, time-sensitive environments
- Outstanding communication skills-able to translate complex technical concepts into clear client-friendly language
- Strong commercial awareness and confident budget management skills
- Exceptional organisational ability with the capacity to manage multiple high-value projects concurrently
- Ability to problem-solve quickly, calmly and creatively onsite
- Commitment to delivering excellence, with a meticulous eye for detail
- A proactive, adaptive mindset and ability to remain composed under pressure
- Full UK driving licence and transport
