Technical Manager - Live Events & Venues Location: London
Salary: £40,000 - £45,000 (dependent on experience)
OTE: Up to £50,000 including commission and bonus
Contract: Full-time, permanent
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Technical Manager to join a leading live events and technical production provider, supporting a brand-new, large-scale convention centre opening in 2026.
This role will suit a technically strong and commercially aware AV professional who thrives in fast-paced live event environments and is ready to take ownership of technical delivery within a cutting-edge venue packed with the latest large-format LED and audiovisual technology.
The Role The Technical Manager will be responsible for managing the end-to-end technical delivery of a wide range of live events, including corporate conferences, congresses, award ceremonies, gala dinners and sporting events.
This is a senior, client-facing role requiring strong leadership skills, excellent technical knowledge, and the ability to build trusted relationships with venue stakeholders and event organisers. The successful candidate will act as the key interface between technical delivery and commercial requirements, ensuring events are planned and delivered seamlessly.
This position would suit someone currently working as an AV Technical Manager or Project Manager, or a highly experienced Senior AV Technician looking to step into a management role.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the planning, installation, operation and de-rig of AV, lighting, audio, video, LED and rigging systems
- Manage on-site technical operations across multiple event types and scales
- Translate creative briefs into detailed technical solutions, including specifications and drawings
- Act as the primary technical point of contact for clients, promoters and visiting production teams
- Lead, schedule and mentor in-house technicians, freelancers and casual crew
- Maintain high standards of equipment care, inventory management, PAT testing and maintenance
- Ensure all events comply with health & safety legislation, including RAMS and CDM regulations
- Support innovation by keeping up to date with emerging AV and event technologies
Essential experience and skills include:
- Extensive experience in live event AV production, with strong LED and video expertise
- Proven experience managing technical delivery of live events
- Background working for an AV production company, venue, or as a senior freelance technician
- Solid understanding of event power, cable management, rigging and event H&S
- Ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues under pressure
- Good IT skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
- Strong attention to detail, numeracy and organisational skills
- Professional, calm and confident manner in high-pressure environments
- Knowledge of Analog Way systems (particularly Aquilon)
- Experience with virtual and hybrid events and streaming platforms
- Basic CAD skills (Vectorworks or similar)
- Understanding of weight loads, sight lines, speaker dispersion and power draws
A-levels (or equivalent) as a minimum; a relevant degree is advantageous.
Working Pattern & Benefits This role offers flexibility, with most work taking place on weekdays, though some weekend and non-standard hours will be required due to the nature of live events.
